The history is telling us that human migration (of tribes), existed at the beginning of times. It is explained that historical migration of human populations begins with the movement of Homo erectus out of Africa across Eurasia about a million years ago. Homo sapiens appear to have occupied all of Africa about 150,000 years ago, moved out of Africa 70,000 years ago, and had spread across Australia, Asia and Europe etc. Also I have learned in school about nomadic people: communities of people who move from one place to another, rather than settling permanently in one location. Apparently there are still nomadic people nowadays belonging to cultures that have traditionally been nomadic, but we are also made to believe that traditional nomadic behavior is increasingly rare in industrialized countries.

I feel nomad, still. I think a lot of people of my generation are nomad. How many of you are living in the same village or town where you were borne? How many of your parents are still living in the same place they were borne? I have been living in 3 countries and this is not exceptionally…I know people that would laugh about my 3 poor locations…And still I am not sure I will not change again the place I am now. It is like the new generation of nomadic people, we are not searching for better places to hunt or to feed our animals but for better places to work and live (another way of hunting). This is something some are willing to do and decided to go for it and some other, not. I don’t know which the best solution is. What is important from my point of you is not to forget living the present. I was moving, I know I am still having chances to move again and thinking of this I can postpone…or even give up of some life style. I do not buy this because if I am moving again will be difficult to carry it around. I don’t buy that because… I don’t know how long I am going to be in this place etc. Why should I buy a good bed and a good mattress for my back and bounds…if I will have to move again, I am renting the apartment, for sure I will have to move. Most of us are thinking like this but from 24 hours we are spending at least 8 are in bed so 1/3 of our life…I don’t buy a lot of books for the same reason so I read less or a read on line which is dangerous for my eyes. I don’t buy a couch for my friends and than I wonder why they don’t want to come by, I don’t buy things for the kitchen to facilitate  the cooking and than I wonder why I spend money in a restaurant or why what I am cooking is not amazing…Are you recognizing this? If yes, remember wherever you will be or you will move, you are living in the present: eating, sleeping, reading, loving etc. Don’t spare the present pleasure for a future move!

I am thinking of writing this article for a long time. Not because I am Romanian but because in fact the Romanian language has admirable advantages for its speakers. The thing is that a Romanian young person, intelligent enough, without studying any foreign language can easily understand the subject of a conversation in Italian, French, Portuguese, Spanish and with a lot of intuition English, German (specially if is coming from Transylvania) and a little bit of Slavic languages like (Serb, Polish etc). How is that? I will try to explain this in several posts mentioning I am not a linguist, so if you find some mistakes please comment!

Romanian is a Romance language, belonging to the Italic branch of the Indo-European language family, having much in common with languages such as French, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish. Lexical similarity: 77% with Italian, 75% with French, 74% with Sardinian, 73% with Catalan, 72% with Portuguese and Rheto-Romance, 71% with Spanish.

However, the languages closest to Romanian are the other Eastern Romance languages, spoken south of Danube: Aromanian/Macedo-Romanian, Megleno-Romanian and Istro-Romanian, which are sometimes classified as dialects of Romanian. An alternative name for Romanian used by linguists to disambiguate with the other Eastern Romance languages is "Daco-Romanian", referring to the area where it is spoken (which corresponds roughly to the onetime Roman province of Dacia).

Regarding grammar, shortly, Romanian nouns are characterized by gender (feminine, masculine, and neuter), and declined by number (singular and plural) and case (nominative/accusative, dative/genitive and vocative). The articles, as well as most adjectives and pronouns, agree in gender, number and case with the noun they reference.

The specificity or what makes it difficult to be understandable by other Latin languages is the fact that Romanian is the only Romance language where definite articles are enclitic: that is, attached to the end of the noun, instead of in front.  They were formed, as in other Romance languages, from the Latin demonstrative pronouns.

As in all Romance languages, Romanian verbs are highly inflected for person, number, tense, mood, voice. The usual word order in sentences is Subject - Verb - Object. Romanian has four verbal conjugations which further split into ten conjugation patterns. Verbs can be put in five moods that are inflected for the person (indicative, conditional/optative, imperative, subjunctive, and presumptive) and four impersonal moods (infinitive, gerund, supine, and participle).

The Romanian vocabulary is formed by: 75% Latin, 15% Slavic and 10% other (Dacian, German, Greek, Hungarian, Turkish, English etc).

The Romanian alphabet is based on the Latin alphabet with five additional letters Ă (ə), Â and Î (both pronounced ɨ), Ș , Ţ.

The letter Ă (ə) and Ș were remaining from the Dacian language. The Ș is a heritage of Etruscian, this is why the Italian is having it in the group of letters sci/sce read like in romanian Și and Șe.

To be continued!

How many of you are using skype? I use it more then any chatting thing/messenger over internet, it is quite reliable and useful tool. I remember that one of the first Romanians I met in Luxembourg I was finding them and contact on skype. It is also very funny. People can search for you, or search for friends that they didn’t even know they were having. How many of you were amazed/amused by messages like “ I am a lovely, sensitive man looking for a serious relation” and if you were checking his profile one could bet was from Turkey! Or by very strange IDs like Dr. Abraham,  Prince Amrah or mino69. It happened also that I have “met” very nice people with whom I am chatting for a long time, even if we never saw each other… exchanging quite interesting conversation…or who is not knowing the latest trend in the urban legends of the girls/women? “Where did she find this handsome?! On skype, dear….”But today I received an original one:“[14:59:39] mariana_russia_xxx says: Hello dear, do you remember how we communicated with you? Long ago you could not see, I am Mariana - with Russia, do you remember me? Come to my page - let's talk, I'm waiting! Here we go to a different level…interesting no? First I was thinking…because I do really know a Mariana in real life…but she is from US, living in Belgium…and I was trying to remember any discussion about Russia….But for sure is not the same Mariana. I was full of joy…what can I say…Tell me one who is not having amazing dreams about a Russian Mariana, Natasha, Ludmila etc. It was very hard to decide if to start chatting or not! Luckily I came down on earth thinking first I am a woman…so I don’t have to pay for sex and I virtual sex is not very appealing as well. Plus that if I would really need such thing… I am a Romanian for God sake…we are at least as appealing as the Russians! Now…excuse me for this post, I know some of you will be shocked…but please, send me the funniest things you received on skype!

We are living in a strange world. This is how I feel. Most of the people are hurrying to do different things and stuff, solve issues, make their studies, develop their career, marring…having kids…all the things. Most of this makes them to forget to enjoy small things in their life, to enjoy the moment…to enjoy our humanity. We are like in a never stopping carousel, haring up to show who is the first, who is the best…who is more important, more reach. Some people they even forget what they are and from where they were starting. But I want to talk in this post about a certain category of people. I want to talk about the pretenders, about the cheaters…about those which are forgetting that we are humans between humans and we have to behave. I don’t mean to behave like to be polite or something…but to behave in the sense of humanity. Most of the people were having a hard year, making efforts to keep their job or to find another one, to keep their business running etc. we are all stressed and a bit of humanity will be welcomed. Unfortunately between us they are the pretenders, the ones who are jealous, the inhuman, full of frustration because they are not able to accept they were making their own choices and they were not the ones they wanted…and they don’t want to accept the consequences. The ones living in their own bubble, believing that they can do whatever they want, that they can invade the life of others and they can take/steal the ideas of other to keep their “honor”, to keep their jobs….in one word I call them the cheaters. The ones not knowing what is the modesty of being smart because they think they are the smartest. I have one in my environment and even if I am a quite equilibrate person it is incredible some times the damage is doing in my mind. I am lucky because I have a lot of nice people around me: my friends and family and all the people I know sharing the same values as mine. To all these people I want to say a big thank you. Thank you that they are like they are, that they are existing, that they are honest, sincere, friendly, having good will, sharing feelings, ideas, humanity. Thank you because you are taking out all the best of you, thank you for not polluting the minds and the life of others. Thank you for giving me the energy and hope to go on, because the majority around me is human!

I was growing up in a country were because of history and different other events, the Germans are very appreciated being considered as precise, serious and organised. In the same time they are characterised as good people but Nordic, quite cold regarding inter human relation. These were the prejudgments I was having when I came to Luxembourg. In top of this other friends from France, Italy or Spain (let’s say Latin origin) were sharing same opinions about the coldness of the human relation of the Germans and their “square” way of thinking. “Germans are tuff, Germans are not good lovers, and Germans are cold”. Last week end I attended a family party for a 70th anniversary, in Hamburg. North Germany…where is cold and rainy. I was of course expecting a boring party where the average age was 60 only because I was present. Well, I was totally wrong: was the warmest and the funniest party I ever been, with speeches that made me cry with crocodile tears, with funny jokes about age and time…with people trying to live their life in the best way. “Germany is the country of poets and thinkers” this is what I have seen and what I have felt. No other party of any kind in Romania, Italy, France or Spain…was so warm, so human friendly or so enthusiastic. It was very easy to feel the emotions of this party, of this family community. Food was extraordinary international and everybody was enjoying the good wines or beers. I don’t know how Germans were before the wars, between the wars…or after but in this moment I think we all should take example of their acceptance (nobody considered me as an intruder even if I was the only non German – black ball for the Italians) for their kindness, emotions expressed loudly through nice poems and speeches and respect towards the others. Communication was at its highest level on both channels (emotional and oral). This is an experience I was living myself but we can generally see all of these in the German society: acceptance of gay communities (especially in politics), freedom of expression in any way without bothering the others, better integration of emigrants etc. Of course exceptions exist as well but the general trend is through communication, good understanding and acceptance…things I cannot say about Romanians, Italians or French (countries I have very near to my heart as well and sharing a big experience with).
